The Boy Warrior - July 31st, 2011

Brother Dennis taught the story of a young boy, David, who later became anointed by Samuel to be the next king of Israel. In this particular lesson, David, was only a teenage boy who helped his father maintain their flock. Sort of like a family business...David's father sent him to bring food to his brothers (he had 7), who were hiding from the large giant Goliath. David hears Goliath calling out to the Israelite army and bullying them. David steps up and says he will fight Goliath, despite his own size and strength. Then David said to Goliath, "You come to me with a sword, spear and shield but I come to you in the name of the Lord," 1 Samuel 18:45. David ends up killing Goliath with his sling shot! You can find the full story in 1 Samuel 17:12-51.
What can we take from this lesson? David had a secret weapon and so do we. The name of the Lord. We can face our enemies in spite of our fear because God is with us. When we are fearful or scared, we can call upon the name of the Lord and he will be there. When kids are bullying you or you have a big test in class...call on the name of the Lord and he will be with you and help you! God gives us courage and strength. God bless you this week and know that God is always listening...
